Fresh air fitness and your next adrenaline rush

Some people swear by the treadmill. Others can’t wait for good weather to head outside and test their limits. In fact, there’s a growing body of research that says outdoor exercise has more health benefits than a trip to the gym. It makes you happier.

Walking, running, biking and other activities through green space lowers stress, boosts mental outlook and improves cardiovascular strength, studies show. We’ll take that!

So let go of the city grind and immerse yourself in the natural scenery and country fresh air of Cobourg…

Nearby Northumberland and Ganaraska forests have fantastic trails for the beginner and advanced cyclist, so get pumped! Great for hiking and giving those glutes a good workout, too. In the winter, these forest trails are groomed for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling (separate routes, of course).

The Ganaraska Forest Centre rents snowshoes, so you can walk tall and listen to the crunch of the snow under your shoes. And just try sprinting uphill!

For some steady road work on your bike, you can cycle the dips and hills of Northumberland County backroads, and pass by farms and the occasional general store at a crossroads. The tourism office has a free cycling map with suggested routes. Or just peddle around town, see the sites and stop for scones and tea.
