THE EVENING YOU ARRIVE
Start your weekend with cocktails and calamari at Marca on the Wharf while you watch the gentle waves. This Italian resto is a beautiful modern space right on the pier.
Then cozy up in front of the fire in one of the luxurious suites at the Woodlawn Inn, a heritage residence originally built in 1835. Ask innkeeper and sommelier, Stephen Della Casa, for a good bottle of wine to enjoy (and see where that takes you…).
Gourmet breakfast at the inn and a relaxing soak in the tub, just because, and then you’re off to the farmers’ market to see what’s freshly picked and baked at area farms. If you’re feeling inspired, get hands-on and pick some apples or berries, depending on the month, at one of the nearby orchards and farms. Eat local (and wonderfully fresh) at Harden and Huyse Chocolates and Café for Chef Z’s open-face tuna sandwich like no other and an always-changing menu board. Sample the Harden and Huyse family’s top-of-the-line chocolates, such as Marzipan-Crushed Almond and Horse-Hazelnut Crunch, handcrafted in traditional Belgium fashion. We did say rich and delicious, didn’t we?
Spend time walking the quaint downtown and strolling the beach boardwalk… When was the last time you ever looked at a sky full of stars? The boardwalk overlooks the Lake Ontario horizon and has the best view of the little twinklers. Finish off the night at The Cat & The Fiddle pub for a pint and a song, or tequila at Poco Camino.
You’re in the country, so enjoy the fresh air with a morning run or bike ride. Or hike in the nearby Northumberland Forest to see the changing leaves and breathe in the woodsy smell. Heaven!
After you’ve earned it, have something homemade and tasty (like the signature Buttermilk Lemon Pie) at the Buttermilk Café. Then visit the Art Gallery of Northumberland for some vivid interpretations of local landscapes.
From jazz to indie to classic rock, Cobourg’s live venues will give you an intimate and memorable experience. Take your pick…
